Anyone have any problems with them. I just reinstalled a head on my car a week ago, put ARP head bolts on the head. Ran the car acouple of heat cycles trying to seat the gasket. Retorqued the bolts again, which where ok. Did acouple more heat cycles and still everything was ok. Sprayed tonight for the first time and blew the head gasket..WTF.....I am goin nuts. Anyone else have any problems with them..
The only thing I have heard is that MLS gaskets in general require a very flat deck because they don't seat over the irregularities that well. Is it possible that your decks weren't as flat as they should be for an MLS? As far as competition MLS gaskets I have heard the Cometics are a better gasket than the Fel-Pro. Also, asking the obvious, did you use the correct bore gasket?
I'm wondering also what happened to the original head and how well decked the head and block were. I have used Fel-Pro in the past but not on my C5. They generally have a good name...
Regardless you are going to have to check the deck and make sure everything is to spec. I suggest you go with the Cometics. I have them, not that I really need them now, but with the eventuality of going FI or N20 seemed like a good idea. I queried on using the copper spray and got negatives with the Cometics. If for some reason you feel compelled to stick with the fel-pro's I strongly suggest doing the copper spray. Good move on the ARP's keep them.
I would also suggest you do a compression test once you get it all back together just to make sure all your cylinders are near same compression.
If all else fails, pull both heads have them cleaned and decked, and o-ring the bastiges!
