Default Cam Questions

Has anybody used one of the Crane "Quick-Lift" cams? I know Crane's reputation has been tarnished over the years but it is what I used when I was building cars longer ago than I care to admit.

The one in particular I was looking at was the 1449591 (specs 224/224 .551/.551 114 ls). I am assuming this would work OK with stock LS6 heads plus a Vararam and LG header with high flow CATS. I do not want to invest in heads at this time or a new throttle body. Please tell me if that is a bad assumption.

Also has anybody used the Crane power programmer? What is tempting about the Crane cams is supposedly their programmer has various programs that are tailored to their cams with options for headers/high flow intakes ect. I have yet to learn of a good tuner in St. Louis so it would be nice to have something close on tuning till I can find some one to do it right.

The other thing I was wondering about is, is there adequate vacuum at idle with a cam of these specs? I was also wondering what would be the approximate rwhp with this setup.

Any help you guys could provide would be appreciated

The 224 straight pattern grind is one of the most popular around for LS1's. The .550" lift is rather modest, shouldn't be too noisy or wear out your valvesprings too fast. It will need some tuning to idle well. With LT headers and an air intake, you should be around 385 HP, possibly higher.
