I thought I heard a faint squeal/chirp under the hood ever since I got my vette about 3 weeks ago. This morning you could really hear it - even when driving. As the car got warmer the chirp got less noticeable but still was audible. The dealer said it looks like an bearing in the idler pulley has dried out and the pulley must be replaced.
my question is - is it safe to drive the car? I can take another if I must as I don’t want any chance of damage done to my baby

It could last for a year or 10 minutes like that. The main thing is the squeal will continue to gradually get worse. It's just better off to replace it and put it behind you.
One thing to check is if there is an aftermarket pulley on the car. If there is make sure the crank bolts not loosining up on you.
i had the same problem for about 2-3 weeks when i replaced the belt and tensioner, about 2 days later my whole harmonic balancer spun off . it left me stranded and a $100 towing bill. good luck!!
