Default Temp Range for '99 C5

I noticed that my recent purchase '99 car temperature reached around 225F when I had to sit in bumper to bumper traffic at idle for 30 minutes or so. What temp will the electric fans turn on??

I've seen some GM cars go into the 235 degree range before the fans come on. Seems mighty hot!

What you did experience is normal for your car, the fans should come on at 230 or so... you can test your fans next time when the car is that hot by turning on the AC to HIGH... this will turn on both fans and cool the car down.

Mine ran that hot too, but then when I got it tuned, they set the fans to come on sooner, and now even with the stock thermo, my temp is usually 192-194 when stuck in traffic. It's never ever over 200F anymore. Oil and tranny temps are nicer too.

My car only has 17K miles on the clock. The previous owner added the Linginfelter cold air induction. I think I will pull the two fuses for the electric fans and make sure they are not blown.

Your temps are normal. The 1st fan should come on at around 225, the second at 235. Turning the A/C on will likely lower idle temps as it automatically turns one fan on at slow speeds. My car routinely hits 230 when idling for long periods in hot weather. These cars are designed to run at those temps. Be concerned (and something's wrong) if it exceeds 235.

My 99 Frc use to run around 195 min. to 220 when the first fan would kick on and the second fan kicks on at approx. 235.

I changed the thermostat to a 170 deg. unit and had the fans re-programmed. Now the first fan kicks on at 187 and the 2nd fan comes on at 195. My car never goes beyond 200 anymore.

You can control your second fan to come on at anytime if you turn on the AC, this automatically kicks on both fans if you don't want the car getting too hot.

Depends on the model year...
For later model years:
The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

For early model years:
Low speed fans come on at 219,high speed fans come on at 228,low speed with a/c on...

Try checking the front of your raditor too. C5's have a knack for letting alot of leaves, grass etc get packed up in there. I had to clean quite a bit out of mine when i got it.
