I have a 2001 Z06 with a problem the dealer has not had to deal with ... if you can believe that. The front skid bar on the drivers side has pulled from the frame. I now have a ratteling, squeeking corvette. How embarrasing. Has anyoun encountered this and what is the best, least expensive way to repair this.
Thanks Y'all
Rut
Not much to replacing the piece since there are just a few bolts holding it in place. Taking the front fascia off is a bit time consuming your first time but that's easy as well. Below is an illustration of the piece (part #20 in the drawing) that you're referring to.
By far the best response I could have ever hoped for. Thank You so much. I guess I had better get started. Thanks Again Patches.
The blind nut has pulled out of the frame, not sure if I can get it to stay in place. Weld it?
Also I see there are some after market skid bolt on plates available. Are they worth their salt?

Reason: Additional thread
Believe it or not, this just happened to me yesterday (little run-off the track at Summit Point ). The front right nut attaching the skid bar to the frame (crash bar) pulled out. Check out this thread for some more info on fixing skid bar related issues click here
I think I'm going to buy a new nutsert and see if that will hold where the old one pulled out. If not, I will braze it onto the frame. Good luck and if anyone has other suggestions, I'm all

I figured my time was worth something so I took it to the dealer for repairs. All they did was repositiom the frame metal where the nutcert pulled out and replaced the nut. 4.5 hours labor = $200.00 Well worth it, since if it pulls out again, its their nickle.

Thanks for the info. If I find it too difficult to try and repair myself, I'll probably take it in to the dealer too. I'm a little surprised it took them 4.5 hours though. Maybe it's more challenging than the I thought ...
