Default ASP pulley users please chime in

I am looking at getting a used ASP 25% underdrive crank pulley with 3800 miles on it. It is $155 shipped with new bolt. I am having a cam put in sometime within the next month or so.

Would it be a good idea to get this (good for the money?).

How much power can I expect?

What are the possible problems?

Maybe 8-10hp.

If it is used then it has already been stretched over a crank once therefore it may not fit as tightly the next time. This lead to the possibility of having it walk off the crank.

Either way if you have it apart and use a new pulley or a used one I would pin it for safety. I should have but didn't think of it in time.

Yes, def get it. You have t remove the stock one anyway to get to the cam. well worth it to replace it with an ASP. I would also pin it.

Check with Patches or ask over on the Forced Induction area. You have pin the crank when using a blower. However it is recommended on any modded car for safety reasons.

I bought a used one and the bore was all trashed...couldn't use it. Buy a new one just to be safe.

After the pulley failures I've seen when used pulleys are reused, I'd pass despite the $100 savings. Regardless of the age of the pulley, I highly recommend you pin it. Pinning keeps the pulley from spinning on the crank snout which, in turn, prevents the bolt from backing out. Andy at A&A might see his way to renting you the pinning kit. Otherwise, it's about 85 bucks from Magnusson for theirs. It's basically just a crank bolt with drill bushing drilled at the radius where the pully and crank snout interface. I'd put two pins in 180 degrees apart. Here's a pic of one we did on a buddy's car. We only used one pin on this one.

Got a new MTI underdrive crank pulley with belts. The guy ordered it for a 99 but it should work on my 2000 right?

Do I really need the alternator pulley?

Do I have to pin this new pulley?

Thanks

You don't need the alt. pulley. I would definitely pin the crank pulley. That will prevent it from walking. I know it's new but I've heard of new ones walking off the crank as well. Pinning is easy. Install the pinning bolt, drill two .250" holes 180 deg. apart and insert the pins. Then install the pulley using the normal installation instructions.
