I posted this in general but got no response so I'll ask here. Does anyone know what causes the dash vents to stop working? I push the mode button but the airflow will only come out of the defroster and the floor vents(o.k. it comes out of the dash, but only a little, not like before) I've disconnected the batt. but that didn't make a difference. Any ideas?
You have lost vacuum to your head unit. The door that controls the flow of air is vacuum operated.
It could be your plumbing under the hood is bad, I had to replace all the pcv related hoses when, at a bend in the line near the firewall cracked.
Or, it could be the vacuum line that is wrapped up with the wiring under the battery. If your battery ever leaked onto the wiring harness it could have damaged the vacuum line.
I have had this problem on mine for sometime, too chicken to cut apart the wiring bundle to fix it.
I just had the compressor and head unit replaced on mine so the mechanic and I are convinced that it has to be a problem in the vacuum line bundled with the wires.

As someone stated, just your hoses....particularly the one under the battery. If you battery is leaking acid, it has leaked all over this hose and ate it up (and possibly your computer, wiring, etc).
Thanks I'll check under my batt. for corrosion and I'll check my vac. hoses to see if any are loose.
I checked under the battery and there weren't any signs of acid leakage, and so far I can't seem to find any loose or missing vacuum hoses. I also checked for any diagnostic codes and there were none.I guess I'll check my vacuum actuator to see if thats the problem.
Just for the hell of it give your air vent flow buttons on the dash a try too, I have noticed on mine that it doesn't seem as strong when I have air the ventilating button on, when I switch it to the circulating button I can feel it more and it cooles quicker.
RoHo I tried pushing the recirculation button and it didn't change anything. RoadRebel I tried my best to feel around at the back of the intake and I could feel the lines but they seemed to be connected.
