First of the year I'm planning on mods that should bring me close to 400 rwhp. It's a 2000 A4 DD with 72,000 miles. Will an LS1 with this many miles handle a cam, headers, exhaust etc and maintain decent reliability?
At a guess (mine only has 54k miles on it), I'd say you'd be alright. I think 72k miles on a well treated LS1 is about half life. What I would do first is a compression test to make sure you don't already have a problem or weakness that will be aggrivated by the install. I would also not recommend upping the compression via decked or smaller combustion chamber heads. This engine just begs for better breathing, in and out, and the car seems very well balanced at 400 rear wheel, like it should have been that all along.
The way I am setup now feels great, and like it will run forever. I'll probably through a supercharger on next year and gum up the works, but I've just got the bug, heh...
