Default Biggest cam with out hitting?

What is the biggest cam I can go with, safely with out having my valves hitting my pistion, on a stock 2001 ls6. I read that you need some clearance, for instance incase your valves do float, or other reasons. Any info will be appreaciated. Also will going with a cam that has a smaller duration and taller lift be better than a cam that has the opposite? I was thinking of going with a cam that has a duration of 229/245 and .625/625 lift from lingenfelter.....yes Ive gotten the mod. bug.

Nobidy can give you an exact answer to that one. You just have to install it and check all the clearances. I have seen the deck height change on stock engines by almost .004 from one engine to the next.

If you are going big ( beyond 0.585-595 lift) you will need to modify your springs/retainers in the heads I believe. That may be a better way to pose the question.

G5X3 on 114 lsa will fit with stock unmilled heads/pistons. A proven 420-430 rwhp with bolt ons (headers, underdrive pulley, ported TB, etc), more with an LSX intake/90mm.

That's about as large as you can go without notching pistons fro clearance.

I've got a TRex cam from Thunder Racing in my 2002 Z06. Stock heads, stock gaskets.

Cam specs are 242/248, 608/612, 110.

Comp921 dual valve springs and hardened pushrods as well. Got about 2500 miles on it since cam swap and on p-v issues so far.

See sig for rest of mods. Cam and bolt-ons for 451rwhp.

I don't think there is any difference between the LS1 and the LS6 as far as potential p-v issues.

The TRex cam is actually much more popular with the f-body crowd, in the WS6's and Z28's. I was initially worried about the opposite, if it works in the LS1 will it work in the LS6. No problems so far!

I bet it has a nice loap to it. Did you do the tune yourself? I was thinking of getting hptuners. I guess I might go with the TREX or ligenfelters Cam The Gt1-1 which is 228/243@50 and .629/.629 114CL Have you heard of anyone using this cam.
