I tried to repair one of my axle boots that had a small 1/4" hole
in it with RTV silicone seal but the repair only held up for a
few months. Does anyone make a product designed for this
purpose ? Something that sticks to rubber and is not chemically
broken down by the axle grease.
You may want to try a product from NAPA called "The Right Stuff" It is a rubber gasket compound that comes in a can similar to a redi whip can. It is excellent for making gaskets and repairing rubber. I dont use silicone anymore. This is MUCH better. the only problem is that it is about $16 for a can, but it does have a good shelf life.
i had the same problem. i had a hole in the RV boot. i had to take the rear axl out and bring it to a mechanic to get the boot off. no matter what i did i couldnt compress the washer enough to get the boot off. good luck with the fix. pat

I will give it a try after this last repair using silicone RTV craps out.
Try using superglue. Mine was leaking and did the superglue thing with it and held up for months. Finally replaced the whole axle. I know thats a little overkill for just a boot. Freind gives me grief for it all the time, but it made me feel better in the long run. Still the superglue never leaked. Make sure you can wipe it clean real good so the glue can get into the crack and firm up.
