So my question still stands. When did the new pulley come out, and when did they start putting the new pulley on the vette.

As far as I know, the new idler was implemented starting with model year Y2K. The bulletin refers to 97-99's. My car is a Y2K, and it had the new pulley, but it was noisey. The bearing had dried out and the outer dust cap was distorted and touching the pulley. When I replaced it...problem solved. The torque spec on the pulley (37 ft lb) is important to get right. The idler the bulletin refers to is between the crank and the power steering, and bolts directly to the block...no bracket. Hope that helps.

Not on my '00 FRC. The tensioner pulley is on the passenger top side of the engine, and is grooved. The idler pulley is down about midway on the driver's side and is smooth surfaced. Not as hard to get to as first seems, I replaced my tensioner pulley because of a worn (but not totally dead) bearing. Hey, after 120k+ miles somethings wear out!

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

NO they are not the same

There is a tensioner pulley with a sealed bearing #3, and an idler pulley with a sealed bearing #8, on both the drive belt system ....and the A/c belt system its #2 and #10.. so in effect you have two tensioner pulleys and two idler pullys..
the Drive belt sytem seems to fail more than the ac belt system..
Many people replace the tensioner pulley to fix a sweaking belt.. but in reality..both the tensioner and the idler pullys shoud be replaced together..
The idler pulley has been updated with a thicker seal on the bearing.. the reason the squeak goes away for a while with replacement of the tensioner only, is because it changes the load on the idler.. but soon the idler start to squeak again..
