What is the best setting for the shift points on an hpp3 and what is a good safe rev limiter setting?

On a stock A4 LS1 i would set the rev limiter to 6400 to 6500 TOPS and have that bad boy shift at 6100/6200 TOPS for the 1/2 and 2/3 WOT shift, for ultimate performance, without jeopardizing any reliability/mechanical safety, etc.

Default my settings

My best ET is +3 for first to second and +3 from second to third. I set the rev limiter on 6600, any lower and you will burp on the second to third shift. I set my shift firmness at 100%

If you spend much time on the CF here you quickly discover that one of the major weak spots on the LS1 is the valve springs. If you want more RPM's I would invest in a set of CompCams 918 springs. The cost is very reasonable and they are a direct replacement. This will let you safely run a higher RPM.

To set the shift points and the limiter for full throttle runs I would try and get to a dyno to find out where you produce the most HP. If it turns out you make the most power at say 5800 RPM there is not much point in shifting at a higher level.

I for example, because of the mods I have, make my peek power at 7000 RPM. However my full throttle shift point is 6500 RPM. When you factor in the lag time for the shift I get up to around 6800 RPM during a shift. My rev limiter is set for 7000 RPM. As you can see the 6500 RPM shift keeps me out of the rev limiter.

I think he is looking for hypertech III funtions. It shifts with a + - mph setting and the rev limiter can only go to 6600. I suggest using the test and tune procedure in the hypertech book at the track. I did this to come up with my shift points, it is pretty easy and lots of fun too.

I think that is what this is about, I believe I have seen HPP3 used before and on my book it says PP3. It stands for hypertech power programmer III. It is a pretty basic tuner, but it is quick and dirty and gave me about 2 to 3 tenths in the QTR. Would not work for anyone with extensive mods like cams, new heads. But for simple stuff like a vararam and headers it seems to work pretty good.
