Default Lobe separation angle?

one other ? Providing the cam duration and lift are the same, what differences would a cam with 112 LSA and one with 114 LSA be?, which one would have more lope, driveability issues, etc?. (running a 6spd) Thanks

The 112 would lope more at idle, be harder to get through smog, but have more mid range torque.

Lobe separation angle is the number of degrees separating the peak lift point of the exhaust lobe and the peak point of the intake lobe. I'm running a 112 LSA on my MN6 and the lope is more pronounced than on a larger LSA cam such as the 114 you mention. The smaller the LSA, the more overlap in the valve events and the more negative effects on emissions. A smaller LSA tends to shift the power peak down in the RPM band.

You can see how the LSA comes into play in the intake-exhaust valve event interaction in the illustration below.

The 112 LSA does not idle as well as the 114 LSA camshaft, but it will produce better power in the mid-range. If emissions compliance is a concern, the 114 LSA is the better choice.

If you have a cam with a lot of duration, even if it's on a 114 LSA, it will shake the car. Check out the idle video in my sig, it's a 230/236 114 cam.

Now there you go, Nice video! Thanks guys! I ordered 232/240 595/608 112 cam (G5X2) from LG, they said it will lope more than the 114. still running stock heads at the moment, but at least when I get ready to change them, the cam will already be in place.
