You should be able to just hold both buttons down for up to 15 seconds(horn will beep). It should reactivate your pad. If not you need to reprogam it through the DIC
Turn car on but dont start engine, turn off all accessories.
Clear out any messegs on the DIC by hitting reset. Then toggle through the Options buttonuntil the scene goes blank. Then , hold the reset button untill the fob sceen comes up. Hit options again an it should say "FOB training", then hit reset, it shoudl say progam 1st FOB, hold down both lock and unlock buttons at the same time. Horn will sound. thendo the same for any other alarm pad you have.
good luck.

Will this process work for additional new key fobs? I purchased an extra set and I understand that the computer will hold ID's for 4 fobs. I was under the impression that the programming for new fobs was something the dealer had to do with a Tech II. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

I just changed the battery in my FOB today and you hold the lock and unlock buttons down for 7 seconds and the horn will chirp!

this from the manual:

"Try to resynchronize the transmitter by pressing and holding the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for seven seconds when standing next to the vehicle." This will attempt to resynchronize the security code in your RFA key fob transmitter.

When resynchronization is achieved the horn will chirp. If attempts to resynchronize your transmitter to the vehicle are not successful, you man need to match the transmitter to the vehicle.

To match the transmitter to your vehicle:

1. Turn the ingnition key to the ON position
2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver Information Center (DIC) by pressing the RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several times until the blank page is displayed, then press and hold the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed, push the RESET button once. The message HOLD LK+UNLK 1ST FOB will be displayed.
5. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 15 seconds.
6. When a transmitter is learned, the DIC will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you to learn the next transmitter.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each additional transmitter.
8. Remove the key from the ignition.

The programmer mode will shut off if:

You don't program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition.
You have programmed three transmitters.

no need to take it to the dealer to do this

New FOB's will have to be programed through the DIC.

I've tried both processes w/ no luck. The fob has a new battery that I just put in.
Could it be something else? A 'dead' fob?

I bought 2 new fobs for my Jeep. Got screwed big time having them programmed. Dealer only and all of the local dealers charge the same. 78 frickin' dollars!!!! Get this, I need to have the factory alarm turned on, well its on now but makes no noise, as well as having some other options activated. Round 2 of gettin' screwed!!!! Where's the toilet for my second $78 installment? And Chrysler wonders why Ford sells more Explorers. Morons....

We have it good with the 'vette's!!!!

One thing that I discovered through the reprogramming is that while you can have 3 fobs memorized, if you take a new fob and just add it, it overlays the fob that was in the first memory position previously. So I had to reprogram all of the fobs again to be sure they were all in memory. Maybe there is a way to jump to the third memory position to add a new one, but I couldn't find it and it was just as easy to reprogram all of the fobs.

The instructions worked great, except that you can't just add a fob without overlaying the fob that was in the first memory position. So the answer is to reprogram all fobs to be sure they all are in memory. There may be a way to go to position 3 to add the new fob but I couldn't find it and it was just as easy to reprogram all of the fobs.

When I programmed my fobs after a battery disconnect, it took longer than the 15 seconds to resister. As a matter of fact, they just wouldn't work with me in the driver's seat and the fob held at chest level. Knowing that my fobs have a very short range, so much so that they won't open the hatch when standing at the right rear fender, and that the receiver for the fob transmissions is located behind the drivers seat,
I pushed the fob button while holding them at the rear of the drivers window. Now, that worked!
