I'm talking about the one mounted on the floor/firewall that gets pressed when you push the clutch all the way to the floor, not the one that gets pressed when you barely push the clutch in. Does anyone know what its function is?
Reason I ask is because I'm thinking about putting some stops on the bottom of the travel to reduce the dead play at the bottom. If I do this, that switch won't get pressed.
I know that my car won't start unless the clutch is all the way to the floor, which I assume has engaged the switch that you refer to.
Try it, push the clutch 1/2 or 3/4 of the way down, and turn the ignition. I don't think it will start (mine won't). Maybe it has something to do with whether or not the car is in gear. As I am writing this I am pretty sure (senior moment ) that I am always in 1st or reverse when I start my car. I can't remember if I have ever tried to start the car when it is not in gear.
Not sure if it has any other funtion.
