I have been thinking of doing this for the track, anyone?

Better track times?
Better dyno Results?
How does is sound?

Thanks

Pics would be really great.

Yep. I'm running dual QTP's. Haven't dyno'ed or tracked it with the cutouts but the sound alone is worth it. Check out my page linked below.

Here's pics of my midpipe: http://fear.net/~dope/corvette/exhaust/custom_midpipe/

Very, very loud, especially with headers and heads/cam. Deafening really.

Power gains depend on what mods you have. Cutouts on a stock car would easily gain 10rwhp. If you already have free-flowing exhaust, it could be less. But then if you add heads/cam then it will be more. I would estimate I am picking up ~15rwhp between cutouts open and closed (stock Z06 ti mufflers).

I picked up 16.6 RWHP and 12.9 RWTQ on my '98, only other mod is a K&N filter.

Would that location clear the trans housing on an A4 car? I'm thinking not. Jeff

Patches, I really like yours. I mounted mine pretty much the same but with better shape (maximum HP).

This pic is before I actually put on the electric cutouts.

Thanks guys. The other setups here look great too. Both are better optimized for hp - mine were done primarily for sound because I had to ditch my Stingers due to way too much volume and resonance when matched up with my heads/cam/header setup. The clearance on mine was critical as well since it's lowered.

Dope, I'd like to see a pic of your's with your electric valves to see how they fit in there. How's the resonance with that setup?

G-lock, I believe someone with an A4 did a setup very similar to mine and it fit.

Patches, I just added the electric cutouts last weekend. It's not actually all back together yet (been having fun with the dremel in my center console! eek!). I'll get some pics this weekend.

It's REALLY close. I had to clearance one corner of one of the valves with an angle grinder, it was lined up just right (wrong?) so that it was hitting one of the reinforcing ribs on the transmission.

Resonance is unbelievable without a partition. With the partition in place it's 80-90% gone. Car is a pretty nasty heads/cam setup with TPIS longtubes, dual 3" cats, dual 3" dynomax bullets, random tech X pipe, and then the dual 3" cutouts. It necks back down to 2.5" after that to mate up with a Z06 Ti setup (stealth!). It's absolutely deafening with the cutouts open and at WOT. It requires earplugs for a friend of mine with sensitive ears (no joke).

I've had dual QTEC electric cutouts on my car since May of last year. They are just plain cool and the "fun factor" alone this mod provides makes them worth the price!

Here's a pic of my cutouts and switch.

Not really. The exhaust is actually quite cool that far back (especially with cats). You can put your hand up to the outlets and not get burned. It's decently hot but not HOT HOT. It's also at least a foot or more away from the spring.

Having said all that, I have wrapped it in heat reflective material anyway (I had some laying around), I'll post a pic after this weekend.

Only downsides are:

1) Attracting cops when entering a highway at WOT in 2nd and 3rd gear. (Been pulled over twice in the past few months)

2) The whole rear end gets soot all over it. Bottom of the diff and the subframe especailly.

Pretty unbelievable sound though. I laugh at people who talk about their bullets and their stingers and straight pipes. It sounds like a full on race car inside the car. The exhaust dumps under the passenger compartment (well more in the hatch/trunk) so it is really, really loud inside.

A good (or bad, depending on who you are) side effect is that no one will race you. No one. I've had people pull up aggressively (whether on the highway or stopped at a light), and as soon as they hear that rumble/loping idle, they get disinterested. The really enthusiastic ones require a rev, resulting in all of the windows shattering in their car. Well not really, but if you heard my car you might believe it.

Hey XT, that's where I put my switch too, except it has one of those red safety covers on it (you know, like in an airplane's cockpit). I've always wanted one of those.

Sweet! That's sounds like a cool idea! Do you mind my asking where you got it?

P.S.- Judicious use of the switch will prevent getting pulled over.
