Default Heater help needed

I have been having heater problems with the C5. My wife took it in to Desert Sun Motors, Alamogordo, NM to have it looked at. This is the only Chevy dealership around here that can work on Vettes. When I have to take the SS there they get it fixed straight away, with the Vette it turns into a movie.
They are TRYING to charge us $96.77 for parts and labor. All they did is look under the hood. What a scam!
We took the car they a few months back to get the headlights fixed. Because they didn't know the probelm they replaced the BCM and a few other things. The cost came out to $2k. Thank God we had a warranty.

Here is what they are saying about the heater
Customer states that the heater seemed to not be warming up. Performed diagnostics and the heater core pipe missing. Needs pipe, hose , seal and intake would have to be removed to install pipe, hose and seal. Possible still heater core problem. But recommend repacling pipe, Hose and seal first, Advise Customer. Customer declined repairs at the present time.
:WTF:
First it sounds like they can't find the heater core pipe. Then they say well, if we replace the heater core pipe and its not that then it must be the heater core.
So what is it?

We bought the car used. Why would someone remove the heater core pipe? Are they easy to install?
If someone can help I would be glad to take pics of the engine to see :wtf: is going on.

I never had to deal with a heater problem. As you can see I am clueless.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Heater hoses run along the passenger side of the engine bay and lead to the heater pipes that bolt to the heater core through the firewall. It's easy to spot if these are missing. I would suspect a problem with the heater door or controls if the hoses and pipes are intact. Below is a drawing showing how the pipes attach to the core. The arrow points to the front of the car.

I had problems with mine last week and found out all it was is the heater **** was stripped out. When I turned the **** to full heat it would just blow normal air. In actuallity it was not turning far enough to the right even though it was on full heat. Dealer ordered a new plastic ****.

It's a lot of work so I wouldn't do it unless I was sure the core was bad. The HVAC module assembly has to come out before you can get to the core. I can email you the procedures if you are certain that's the issue.

They are probably talking about the rubber drain pipe that comes from the AC core in the HVAC box. I replaced mine just by putting it on the lift. My hands were to large for final fit, but my wife helped out. Cost me 1 hour at hobby shop using the lift.

The heater core is completly removed.
The previous owner did a bypass mod or something to save wieght.
I has a GM certified shop look at the car.
