Default Help Choosing headers.

I've decided I want to start modding my 04 Z06, and long tube headers will be the first addition. I need a little help on deciding what is best for my application.

Obviously, the car is otherwise stock right now. I've narrowed it down to either Supermaxx long tubes with x pipe and cats, or LG long tubes either with or without cats. Which would you choose? How does the sound and power compare between the cats and catless versions?

Also, is a tune necessary with just headers? I realize I stand more to gain with a tune, but I won't hurt anything without getting one right away will I? If I go with the one with converters, I can just plug in my 02 sensors and go?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Use the Search, there are a million threads answering your question:

Short Version:
- I chose SuperMaxx just because they are similar and far cheaper than LGM.
- Sounds is better for either, and mostly depends on the catback exhaust you have.
- Tune will help pick up about 10-15rwhp you leave on the table after headers, but not required unless you get LGM's, unless you want to purchase O2 sims.
- You can plug and go with the SuperMaxx since it uses all the stock O2 sensors. LGM uses half of them and will throw codes without O2 sims or a tune.

- Get an intake as well, this is a great first mod.

I got the LG because the supermax was not out yet,,,, It would have been a very hard decision .. I love my LG, they fit great, but the price and not needed the simms would have been nice. However, if you get headers, i feel its a waste to not get a tune and a good filter system (like a blackwing)....I could feel the difference with just the headers before my tune..
