I parked the vette for about 7 days....when I finally got around to driving it and I found a big spot on the ground. Probably about a 12" circle of some fluid, it was underneath the front of the car. I tried to see underneath, but I have no way to jack it up. I felt the spot and it didn't seem to be oil....what else could it be. Originally thought Tranny fluid, (just recently had that done - about 200 miles ago but thats in the rear) - the coolant seems to be at a good level, oil with the dip stick seems to be as is was before. Power steering fluid is still full as is the Brake fluid.
When I parked the car at my work, and then came home (about 10 hrs) I did not see any spots there.
What else could it be. Or maybe it is just a very slow oil leak that had built up over the 7 days?? We had some windy weather - could that have done anything?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The spot is right underneath the middle of the engine. I couldn't get a good smell from that spot. It felt a little greasy, but not as much as oil would. Today I was at work and I found another spot (the floor is concrete, so it didn't absorb in) - It smelled very faintly like antifreeze.
I will have to try and take a look from the top down to see if I can find any hoses that are leaking. Does the Dex. smell different than traditional antifreeze (the green stuff)?
The levels still look normal, but will double check it in the morning.
I plan on getting the entire systemed flush before putting it away for the winter, Will be doing that this week.
DexCool is orange in color and a little oily-feeling. A couple places to check are the coolant crossover tubes that span under the throttle body just in front of the intake manifold and and across the back of the intake as well. On your 98 (assuming it's stock) those hard tubes are connected by a tube that traverses under the intake manifold.
Also check your other coolant hoses including your radiator and overflow tank hoses. Don't forget the heater hoses that run along the passenger side of the engine bay to the firewall. Check around the perimeter base of the heads for leaks as well if the hoses are dry.
