I am working with GM on a “CHARGE SYSTEM FAULT” message on the DIC after changing to the new 140 amp alternator. Every thing is working fine and no DTC codes stored. You reset the dic and it eventually comes back.
I have finally gotten the attention of GM on this problem and they now want your assistance. I have been in contact with GM Parts Technical Assistance and Chevrolet Technical Assistance. This problem is being referred to GM Engineering but they need VIN NUMBERS.
ONLY if you have changed your alternator and received the latest # 10353440 alternator which is 140 amp instead of the original 110 amp alternator; and have had this problem. Please email me your vin #, mileage, name and phone number. All of this information I will be forwarding to GM Engineering and Chevrolet Technical Assistance. They are trying to find out exactly what is going on and why. I doubt if they will call you, but I told them I would ask for the phone number just in case. According to GM they have only had 6 cases of this reported. I know there has to be a lot more out there.
PLEASE DON’T SEND RUMORS OF MY FRIENDS NEIGHBOR SAID.
We need hard info so GM can solve this problem quickly. Here is your chance to help. I promised GM that the great members of the Corvette Forum would come thru for them.

Bob:
I assume you already have all my info on this, but I will e-mail you just in case.
BTW, Evil Twin experienced this also. Bill, you out there? Maybe enough of us that have experienced this problem can help Generous Motors engineers solve it.

Yeah I am here.... I went through three of those Mexican alternators and all the crap I heard from GM.. I tried to give them My input as to the problem.. But they knew better than me..They dont work on a Pre 2001. the PCM and the discreet circuit switching of the new alternator do not communicate properly.. If GM wants to hire me back as a consultant. I may concider it...
THanks Bob for getting involved... the only resolve for this without a complete reflash which doesnt exist.. is the old 110 Amp French made Valeo alternator,.My problem is solved but other will see problems with this new alternator.

I have a 2004 that will sometimes give this Charge System Fault message in the DIC. The amp gauge will swing to max, the fault will come in, the amp gauge will drop, the message goes away. I took it back to the dealer, however, they could not find an issue of course. I have the stock alternator.
May not be related.......but seemed similar.
If Chevrolet wants to contact me, I'll be happy to provide my VIN.
I am on my second alternator and get the warning so many times daily that I lose count. My volts shoot to 16.1 then drop to 12.1. Sometimes the message comes so fast and so many times in a row that it just blinks on the DIC without even using the chime sound. Car runs good all the time though. Maybe I won't see it for a day, then the same thing all over again. I have a 98 A4.

my 04 gets that code every once in a while. i haven't done anything electrical to cause it but it seems like it only happens at start up if i don't turn it over long enough.

Same for my '03 Z06, except for me it does not matter if I turn it on 5 times in a day or once a week....the charge system fault message comes on at random. The Chev dealer is perplexed and has called GM engineers several times. SOL.

and they told Bob at ken Fichtner that they only heartd of this about 6 times... The Detriot school of Bulls.h.i.t. at it's best..
My 2001 vert has displayed the Charge System Fault a few times in the last couple of years. I'm still on the original alternator though... The battery was replaced this past winter.
I get this "charge system fault" DIC message all the time. It comes on randomly...but only seems to come on when I have a girl in the car, which of course notices it...and of course has to ask what's wrong with my car...I think she (the vette) gets jealous when there are other females present.
BTW...I replaced the alt., bat., and checked all the wires. Have no clue what is causing. I will email Bob all of my info...
I have a '97 and the alternator was replaced about 4 months ago or so.

I still have my stock alternator, but I have had this message three different times at startup. The car only gets driven on weekends, so I assumed the battery charge was just getting low from the car sitting.
