Help ID knocking noise
On cold morning start ups. I get a knock from the engine compartment that sounds just like engine knock. After the car is up to full operating temperature it goes away.
I have 60k miles on a 2000 cpe.
I am about due for an oil change.
I have been using red line 10w-30 for a couple of years now.
I consume 1 qt of oil every 4-6 months.
What is this noise?
Should I drop my oil viscosity on the next change?
Should I change back to mobile 1?
I won't race any in the winter season. In fact I haven't raced in 6 months.

Sounds like piston slap or even excessive bearing clearance.Change the oil and go with a heavier weight like 20/50 and see if it goes away. Also as already mentioned check the old oil carefully for anything in it.
