Default Flat Tire (non-runflat)... patch or plug??

What's best for a non-runflat tire... patch or a plug and why?

Seems like a patch is more durable but the tire has to be removed and remounted. Seems like that would stress the bead/sidewall some. Are plugs reliable enough to use or should I get a patch?

Thanks

even if it's not a runflat, it still is speedrated and should only be patched, and if the hole (if I remember) is larger than 1/8" the tire is compromised according to some manufacturers, and is no longer safe at higher speeds.

I always patch it unless i am stuck or nothing is open. If it were my work truck, i might plug it, but my vette would get a patch

I would replace the tire.. why risk it at high speed.. but if you have to repair.. DO NOT USE A PLUG.. they are horrible.. and tend to leak. I would highly reccomend using a patch. but only repair if that is the only option.. like I said don't risk having a tire fail on you with a corvette you might do more damage then what it's worth to save a hundred or 2..

or just make sure your fiance's father owns his own tire repair shop... tends to work well.

IMO, a plug is an emergency field repair to last long enough to get the tire repaired properly with a patch. So far I haven't had to plug one of my tires, but I carry a plug kit and 12v compressor in my car just in case.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
