I just got my car last Saturday and already having a big problem.
During my drive today I started to notice a squealing during idle. I head home after hearing this to investigate. So I check the pulleys, alternator, etc. I pull off the A/C belt to try to eliminate those pulleys and A/C. After placing the main belt back on I started the car and it was still squealing. Back under the hood I notice the belt is halfway off the balancer. After closer inspection I notice the outer part of the harmonic balancer is back against the block.
During my drive I did get pretty high in RPMs. But didn’t hear or see any warning lights come on. Just when it idled it would make the squealing noise.
Car has 78k miles and it runs strong. Looking at the rubber material between the inner and outer parts of the balancer it looks a little hard. Is this a common problem with the LS1?
Looks like I will have something to do during my vacation next week. So where is the quickest place I can get a balancer? Also is the engine internally balanced? Would like to get an aftermarket balancer but don’t want to mess up the balancing.
Started to remove the rack, so I could get to the balancer. Anyone have any tips on getting it out? Pulling it out the drivers side and its hitting the lower mounting boss. Do I need to drop the kmember to get it out? Just need 1/4 inch of clearance to get it out.

One our supporting tuners is A&A and this is done on all SC applications. A&A has the instructions for this procedure on his web site. Do yourself a favor and pin the new crank/balancer while you have it all apart. This way it won't spin on you ever again. You'll find this on the same website.
When I had to pull mine, I had to find a special puller. If I remember right, it needs 3 fingers. The one I used only had 2 and I had a bear of time getting it off. Installing was just as hard, and the old bolt isn't long enough to pull the new pulley on. I had to rig up a brass insert so I could tap it on until the OLD bolt caught the crank. Once in, I removed the old bolt and installed the new bolt.
