idler tensioner is going out? I have been fighting a squealing belt for 4 months now with no success. I have replaced the idler pully, the other pulley under the alt., the harmonic balancer and the belt 3 times. When I change the belt, the noise goes away for about 2000 miles and then it comes back. The sound is just a constant squeaking that doesn't change with rpm's. My thinking is that after installing the new belt, it loosens up a little after a couple thousand miles and the tensioner doesn't keep enough tension on it. Its the only thing I can think of since everytime I change the belt the sound goes away for awhile.

You may be right, but it could also be a bearing on any of the accessories. Might want to remove the belt and try to spin each of the accessories and determine if one of them is dragging or just maybe you can feel the bearing damage as you turn it.

Fact is: it will soon fail!

Default Katech Belt tentioner

I agree it might be a accessory bearing going out but
When we did the head and cam change we installed a Katech belt tentioner and never looked back
