Does the big mouth air deflector replace that spring loaded plastic air deflector. I am scraping that plastic air deflector everytime I enter my driveway and looking for some additional clearance.
Not really worried about 'hurting' the defelector. I hate the scraping sound and would like to eliminate it. Even at stock height I scraped, so now that I am lowered (slightly) it is even worse. I have heard good things about the bigmouth reducing engine temps, living in Phoenix I would like to do everything I can to keep my engine temps down in the summer.
I have the bigmouth and it actually sits higher than the factory piece.. only on VERY steep inclines does the bars scrape the ground. My rad is relocated so I was able to leave the modded OE air dam in place to keep the factory look intact... dont know if yours will have to be removed or not... but if so, you should be able to modify it and mount it so it will retain that air dam OE look you started off with.
When my car was stock, I really didnt have any cooling problems... when I went F/I the rad was relocated and I lost the ability of the air damn to work correctly... I was then having cooling problems. Since installing the bigmouth to cool a rad/condenser and intercooler... my setup is MUCH COOLER now! So in my case it was the best thing to do... For you I would think an improvement would be seen... afterall, that bigmouth does scoop the air and uses an agressive approach to placing the high speed air right on your condenser and rad in a way the OE unit does not.
I put one on my 2002 coupe and didnt have to take the stock air dam off. I think i have my big mouth turned down in the front to much because i scrape it quite a bit. I think i could say it made mine run about 5 maybe 10 degrees cooler.
Everything I have found about the big mouth leads me to believe it works. The only thing that prevents me from purchasing one is that holes have to be drilled into the skid rails. I don't care to do that.
