5-sp auto?
Hey folks
Was wondering if anyone has heard of a 5sp auto that would work in the Vette? Ideally I would switch over to a T-56, but I realize how much $$$ and risk there is making that setup work well. Lots of folks usually say "just sell the car and get a 6-sp", but I've got too much invested in this one to do that.
I have no real problem with the auto (the 4L60 is a great tranny, even in stock form). Granted, there is nothing like a 6sp. But it's the short OD on the 4L60 that bothers me the most. I'm running 3.73 out back, which added about 1000 rpm in 4th @70 mph. The OD gears (both of them) in the 6sp would have handled this much better, with 6th being only a few hundred rpm difference at the same speed.
So, in a nutshell if I can get a more usable OD ratio (eg. from a 5sp) then I'd be happier with the auto. Obviously I don't want to drop the rear to 3.42. I knew what I wanted and what I was getting into with the 3.73. And I'm happy with that part of the performance equation. But I'd like to improve the highway rpms.
Any ideas?
