Default Coating LG headers??

Was there a reason I should not coat a set of LG headers? I would really like to but I thought I read something about it being a big no-no??

Thanks

Pete

There isn't anything wrong with coating them. The 304 stainless rejects heat so well that most people don't bother with it.

No reason to coat Stainless headers - - that's the whole point of getting stainless in the first place.

Mild steel rots due to condensation and heat cycles, stainless doesn't

Keep them uncoated and enjoy the nice blue color they turn over time

I have the LGM pre-production header system and had them Jet Hot coated. Lou had no problem with this or he would have said something up front, I ‘m sure. I'd be glad to e-mail you a few pics if you'd like. That is if you have DSL or cable.

I also have the 1st generation LG Longtubes that were ceramic coated.
Lou sent them off at my request and had them coated.
I like the look of the coated headers better myself and also get a slight decrease in eng. bay temp. as well.

Pete,

I have the L.G. Motorsports long-tube Pro headers. I had Swain Tech apply a white cermanic coating before I installed them.

Coating of 304 stainless steel covers the brown color that the stainless turns to once it has been exposed to heat. My coating also reduces heat rejection into the engine compartment and through the tunnel by approximately 50%.

It was expensive, but I am pleased with the results.

Good luck with your decision.

Pumba, if you don't mind, how expensive was the coating?

SwainTech is the ****. My buddies Z06 has coated stainles works header and 3 hours into a trip I actually touched the headers for 5 seconds before my hand got hot!

Coat them, contrary to popular belief, stainless rusts just takes a little longer. Coat them, they will never rust. Also run allot cooler. Jet Hot Sterling is the only good process. The Swain cracks in time and rusts underneath. Ceramic is too thick and takes up space in the pipe, effectively cuts pipe size. Go Jet Hot!

My LG longtubes are coated. It wasn't my preference but it's just how it worked out. I had a tough time working a window in my schedule to get my LG's installed but had it all worked out with LS1 Speed Inc. for a Monday last fall. I took a red-eye from Vegas home to Chicago, cab from O'Hare back to my house downtown, jumped in the C5 and drove out to Schaumburg and waited for Speed Inc. to open (no sleep for me!). The headers were supposed to have arrived but as it so often happens it wasn't to be. The guys at Speed Inc. are stand-up, though, and Tom the owner tells me he has a set of coated LGM's he can have installed at the original price plus his cost for the coating (no markup). A few more bucks, sure, but compared to the hassle of trying to find a day to take off and commute to the burbs and all that, it's all good.

Everybody that's ever looked under the hood thinks those headers are gorgeous. My F-body buddy wishes he had something like that on his T-A.

I love my LGM's and am very happy with the coating.

Great, thanks for the info guys. I am going with HPC as they are just up the road from me and they did good work on my last car.

This is the stuff, a bit pricy but it works
