Default Radar detectors

Hey guys, What better place to ask than the Corvette forum, I'm look for a good plug-in type radar detector that works, can you guys tell me what been working for you.
I'm getting ready to make a trip to AZ over the holidays and AZ has some real long 150 MHP type roads, but the also have the highway patrol.

I am sure you'll get a ton of replies here so I'll keep it brief. I've always owned Cincinatti Microwave (now ESCORT) radar detectors, and I truly believe they are the only reason I still have a license.

I currently own an Escort 8500, which I love. Function is perfect. I am sure you'll hear a lot about the Valentine One. I've actually been side by side with friends who have owned it and while it's not much better I am always alerted before they are.

There is a new Escort 8500 X50 on the market which seems to just add to the great technology they have already employed.

Anyway, good luck. Check out www.escortradar.com
Keep in mind that going from 150 to something legal will take some time. Learn not to doubt the radar detector. It could be the only thing between you and Thanksgiving behind bars.

Valentine 1 is also another good one. I think every product that is posted on this site is subject to each persons tastes/expierences. Good luck with your decision.

I have had my V1 for a while now. Never lets me down. The directional arrows are a godsend.

I have the solo S2 here which is powered by two AA batterys. Plug in detectors are supposed to be better, but my solo seems to work just as well! Good luck with your purchase!

RoHo,

I have a Valentine 1.

Take a look at www.radartest.com. They run tests on all of the latest detectors.

Good luck with your decision.

I own both the Pasport 8500 & Valentine 1 and have compared both side by side many times. They both are great detectors but the V1, in my opinion, is by far the best. The arrows do make all the difference!

Default jammer

I forget the brand but I have a radar/laser detector/jammer. Seems to work, when I drive towards those little wagons they put out that says how fast you are going, it goes to double zeros until I pass it.

Solo 2 for me. It saves me about 10 times a month. This is my 5 escort product and haven't had a ticket in 10 years (knock on wood).

Same here. Had both and sold the Passport. Why? The V1 arrows are a godsend.

BTW, this is a heated subject. Do a search and read a month's worth of opinions.

Radar detectors are always a popular topic over in the General Corvette Topics "Audio/Electronics" forum, so you might want to do some browsing over there for past discussions: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

FWIW I'm a big V1 fan.

The battery powered Solo S2 is great. No cords, easily transportable from car to car and turns itself off automatically if your car is still for 20 minutes saving the batteries. Nice features such as turning off the "X" band, city/highway or automatic mode and a nice hard carrying case.

I highly reccomend the Valentine. I bought mine before driving my new Z06 home to Ca from NC. I have had other brands previous to the V-1, but after 3400 miles with the Valentine, I am convinced that it is every bit as good at detecting radar as any other brand, but what puts it over the top are the arrows. I knew every time what I was dealing with...i.e. false alarm or real, and I knew which direction it was coming from and how likely it was to be a problem for me. Once I learned to observe the arrows and the strength meter over time, I found that I could pretty accurately predict where the threat was going to be. It saved me some serious $$ in tickets on that trip alone.
