Fuel Pump Change Question

Can it be switched out from jack stands?

I have a 98 m6 and I changed mine in my garage on jackstands. I purposely drove my car nearly out of gas to alleve drainage issues. Once on jacks, it only took about an hour to do the swap. The pump is a tight fit around the left lower control arm but it can be done. Make sure not to bend the float level rod and that it is oriented correctly in the tank. Hope this helps, good luck!

Is the most usual reason for fuel pump replacement because of the level sensor problems? Or do the pumps typically fail as well...

Just watch the float level rod so as not to bend it and you should be good to go.

Yes. It's very easy to do just lift the rear as high as the front spoiler will allow. Before you start go buy a little extra clear tubing and then you'll be able to pump the gas right into one of your other cars. If you need install instructions, A&A has them on his website.
