Default Front Leaf Spring Probs!!!

Hey everyone, just got back from the local dealership and they said I need a new Front Leaf Spring. The 97 stock leaf spring is making noise and they say it is from the cushions on it. The dealership said the cushions can not be replaced without buying a Complete front leaf spring. Does anyone know if this is true and if not where would I go to get the cushions for the front leaf spring?

What kind of noise are you getting? Are you getting a squeaking noise, or...?

It sounds like a rickety metal sound. I was orginally told the ball joints needed replaced and to buy lower control arms, which I did. Now they say it wasn't the lower control arms and that it is the cushions, just depends on which mechanic they have working on my car.
I found the replacement kit on Hardbar. Could I install these by myself or do I need to go to the shop?

It's easy to replace if you have the time. Go to www.ls1howto.com and he'll sep you though the process of removing the spring. You won't have to REMOVE the spring to get at these bushings, but you will need to do everything up until that point.
I've used this procedure and it's very detailed.

Depends....Do you work on your own car?
You have to drop the lower A-arm to remove & replace. It's not hard,

Sounds like the spring pads are dry. Safely support the car on jackstands. Gently use a jack the lift the spring off of the control arm. Use a block of wood between the jack saddle and spring so you don't knick or scratch the spring. Lift the spring enough to get between the pad and a-arm. Cover the pad on the a-arm where the spring rests with some chassis grease. Be careful not to rotate the pad on the spring or the ride height will change. HTH.
