I've got what I assume is a noisy throwout bearing. I've got a Spec clutch, and with the pedal out, the rattle is even louder than the rattle I had stock.
My question is, which part is it that is making the noise? In my service manual, there isn't anything labeled as the throwout bearing. There's the clutch actuator cylinder and the pilot bearing. Which one is making the noise?
Here's the service manual diagram. #1 is the pilot bearing, #5 is the actuator cylinder.
I'm currently using the pilot bearing that came with the clutch. If this is the part that's making all the noise, can I use a GM bearing to quiet things down a little?
The throwout bearing goes on the end of #5, facing the pressure plate. (#5 is commonly referred to as the slave cylinder). It's not numbered in the pic.
