I gave my car to my mom in MD and it's her daily driver. It's getting cold and I have a feeling she may not be exercising enough patience warming it up. Has anyone used an auto starter? (it's an automatic). Is it possible to start the car, lock the door and then use the other key to unlock it? Thanks
Don't have an auto start ......... but just this morning I started it to warm up, locked the doors, went in and finished a cup of coffee and unlocked the door with the 2nd key fob. If that is what your asking, then yes. Do it all the time. Hope this helps
Start the car from the house the doors stay locked.
Open the door, step on the brake the car dies.
Put key in the ignition and turn to "on" then step on the brake, the car come out of the by-pass mode and runs like a normal car.
You get 2 new fobs, that right now only work on memory 1. The dealer has to have the programmer to program the memory option. The installer I use does not. But just get in the car turn it on and press memory 2 or 3.
Proper way to warm up a car (including a C5) is to get in it, start the engine, fasten the seat belt, and then drive off at moderate speeds. Engine warms up faster, less pollutants get into the oil and the engine experiences less wear. The only reason to do otherwise is to be more comfortable when getting into the car. Temps in MD don't get that low. Let her freeze she is only your mother.
