I have had a LUK clutch/aluminum flywheel combo on the vette for about 6 months. I have had mild vibration issues since install due to improper balance.
Three weeks ago I started noticing a rattling noise when the car is stopped at idle with the clutch depressed. If I put the car in neutral and let the clutch out, the noise goes away. It seems to be getting slightly worse each week. This noise exists at cold startup and after 45+ minutes of driving.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Mods are listed in signature.
You and I don't have good "LUK" do we Mine slips w/ any shift over 5000 rpms. I'm pursuing my "options" and will probably get mine exchanged, fully zero balanced, and re-installed. Lingenfelter told me they ran into a bad batch before, so it's no guarantee that they're truly zero'd. Every tuner I talk to says they don't trust any clutch and balance them all.
As for the noise...w/ mine it was the opposit I think (w/ the stock clutch) w/ the car in neutral w/ the clutch out the driveline made doise b/c the drive shaft was spinning, but it went away when the clutch was pushed it. W/ the clutch depressed the disk isn't spinning but the flywheel and PP are.
Are you also having balance issues with yours? I have heard varying stories about the LS1 being internally vs. externally balanced -- therefore a perfectly balanced clutch assembly may not work right unless it is balanced to the old assembly (too late in my case).
The LUK I have holds like a champ, never had it slip. Hope you get your problems resolved.
I've gotten to the bottom of this mess... the LSX motors are partially externally balanced but on the harmonic balancer side. The weights in my flywheel are to balance that unit itself. I talked to Andy at A&A, 21st Century muscle cars, Lingenfelter, LGM, Cartek, MSI, etc... they said they balance each and every assy that comes there way, and most aren't truly zero'd.
They also said the motor is a zero'd assyemble, but the harmonic balance can have counter weights in it... if you ever remove it it specifically says you must mark it's location and return it exactly... if changing it for a new one yo must exaclyt transfer teh weights
