Default Should I get a tune after these mods?

Currently, my car has a Blackwing and B&B PRT catback. I have an LS6 manifold coming in the mail and I will probably be getting the Jet Hot headers with no cats after Christmas some time. My original plan was to get a cam soon after and have the car dyno tuned. Now Im foreseeing that money might not be available for quite a few months after I do the headers and I might end up doing gears instead.

My questions are, should I have the car dyno tuned after the intake and headers go on? Will I see enough of a gain to warrant the expense? Will the car run like crap if I slap on the headers with no cats and no O2 sims?

On a sidenote, with 23k miles, should I do new plugs and wires 'while Im in there'?

The tune wont be necessary, your car will run fine without it. When your done with all your mods get the tune

When I did my mods I waited to do a tune and I had no problems. When the cam was installed Ipurchased a Vinci Programmer and installed the tune, there was a big change in power and throttle response.

Might run a little rich, but a good tune is worth waiting until a good majority if your mods are done, or you do a mod that requires one. ie cam, heads, gears.

Alright, that was my original stance but I was worried about running lean, not knowing it, and blowing something.

I would think that adding more air in and more air out of the motor would cause the motor to run lean, not rich? Or does the PCM overcompensate with fuel?

The stock PCM has the ability to tune the minor changes.Your MAF will sense more air coming in and compensate with a fatter fuel mixture.

Excellent. I heard 500 miles is the 'learning time' so to speak of the pcm, since my car isnt a daily driver this would take some time to accomplish. I had read about a pcm reset procedure on c5forum.com, think I should do this after my mods? I would like to enjoy my mods NOW!

What ever you do sooner or later your ride will learn to the best of its ability. The full potential won't be realized until the tune is done. Have fun.

The place I got mine tuned at had "free" upgrades for a year if I did any mods. Might want to ask the tuner about that.

I would recommend getting a tune after you do any of the above items. Alot of places will give to discounted tunes after your first one. Just let the tuner know that you plan on adding items like cam, gears, ect. ect. See if they will work out a plan with you. You can run no cats. Alot of system sell a "offroad version" which means the system is catless. You will need to run your front O2's. The back ones can be plugged and tuned out or you can get some O2 sims. While you are working on the car you might as well just change the plugs and wires. Have fun. Kaley

I would say no and wait untill you go internal. The PCM will do much to learn and you might want to do an idle re-learn. It is all over the forum, and basicaly pull the POS bat term, wait, re-conect and then start and idle for 5 minutes or something. The drive her like you normal, and the PCM will do the rest. If you are having someone else install and they will tune it should help some. Enjoy!
