converter question

However the difference is less then one might think, because you are at WOT in 3rd gear the converter is about 95% efficient depending on the slip ratio.
In a stock A4 the converter will never lock at WOT nor will it shift into OD.
If you allowed a shift into OD W/O locking the converter you would overheat the trans and fail it very shortly.
You can control the converter lockup with LS1 edit, but IMHO you should not change the factory logic.
Now that being said, if you want the fastest 1/4 mile times lock the converter at about 3000 rpm's in 1st gear but be prepared to pay the price with broken parts in the trans!
For the top end guys who have modified the engine and or changed the axle ratio you can have 4th gear and lockup at WOT if you have Ed Wright programming or know how to use LS1 edit.
The stock car reachs top speed in 3rd gear unlocked, a shift into 4th would slow the car down.
