Default Jacking for oil change

I have a 97 Corvette and love it. I want to know what is the best way to jack up for a oil change. I did see the pucks they use and also some owners use ramps. Ramp still don't look like enough room to get under car and the pucks fit into the floor jack to protect body??? Do you have to jack both side together, enjoy the CF alot. SAM

Hi GH,

I went with 2 jacks and 4 jack stands. I lift the read end first and I set 2 jack stands in the back. Then, I have enough clearance for my 2nd jack to lift one side of the front end and set the 2 remaining jack stands one on each side of the car.

I am glad for your 97.

I hope it helps. M.

Do a search on this, there are a few different ways to change the oil. Some just lift the back, some lift the whole car. Find out which way is comfortable for you. And the pucks are just spacers to protect the body.

I pull nose down on the slope of my driveway with the front tires on ramps of 3 2x12's on each side. Gives plenty of room and maintains the front a bit lower than the rear to facilitate complete drainage.

All the best.

Autozone sells Rhino Ramps for 30 bux.... I remove the left and right air dams(4, 10mm bolts each) Place the ramps on rubber mats to prevent skidding and raise the front of the car...Then using a floor jack, raise the rear at the main frame crossmember and place a jackstand next to it for safety. Plenty of room for me, my belly, and a creeper!

I easiest way I have found without using ramps is to simply jack the front of the car up jacking at the crossmember brace. That way you dont have to screw with those jacking pucks or whatever they use. Then place two jackstands at each side of the crossmember. Then unbolt the drain plug then use the same jack to raise the rear of the car to a slightly higher level than the front. Jack the rear of the car up at the rear crossmember.
I personally do not like jacking one side of the car up at a time as it tends to stress it or flex the frame. Jacking at the center of the front and rear crossmembers is best IMO.
Hope this helps.
