I was just looking at my shortblock and noticed that the
rear oil galley plug has the rounded side sticking out. Is this
right? My service manual shows the rounded end inside the
block. Is my plug in backwards? How do I get it out to switch
it?
The rear oil gallery plug assembly can be removed using a small screwdriver. You can reuse the o-ring on it if it's not damaged. It appears that the orientation is critical due to the position of the o-ring. Here's a shot (lower right) from my engine assembly manual.
So...would this have been a major problem? It would have been
really hard to fix after the engine was in the car. I would have expected
more from the "major" tuner that built the shortblock.
Thanks!
