Default Cam input pleaseeeeee

I am going up to Xtreme this weekend to discuss the cam specs for my h/c job. I have the BASIC knowledge of cams, but needdddd your help.

The car has/will have a CAI, headers, x-pipe, no cats, b&b's, h/c, and 3:42's. The heads will be AFR 205's. I searched and got some good info from posts like Tony Mamo's- made 480/437 on a "relativly conseravtive cam". This sounds veryyy good. I dont want a total top end screamer. the car is notttt a daily driver, and i dont mind a little shake at idle, but i'd like to keep ABOUTTTT the same low end grunt of the stock Z, and lay down ABOUT 430 rwhp on the dyno (91 octane gas). Then a few months down the road throw on 90mm intake/throttle body and the reamining goodies, and make about 475 rwhp on the dyno (93 octane).

ARE MY EXPECTATIONS REASONABLE. Please, input is welcomed.

Not to shatter your dreams, but dont get your hopes up for big numbers in AZ! Ive had nothing but good luck with the G5X3 cams, but thats just my preference. Take a peak at Nukecops car before you decide on cam as I did the X3 combo in his and it drives like a stock vette even with an auto! I have yet to knock out one with a set of AFRs, but I usually prefer to stick to stock heads and add bottle if more power is needed... just more cost effective for the majority! As far as low end grunt... just check out Nukecops tread marks all over the street behind our shop
Another option to consider is blower / cam if you really want the low end power... its about the same price in the end since you arent buying heads or a FAST 90/90 combo, nor a fuel system to support it. Just a suggestion!

BLACKTOP2000 and I just did our cars using very similar setups to what you are considering.
BLACKTOP2000: Vararam-1B, LS6 intake, ASP UD pulley, TPIS headers, RT cats and xpipe, Z06 titanium mufflers. AFR 205's milled .024" mounted on Cometic .040" mls gaskets, Comp XE-R 224/228 .581"/.588" 114LSA +1. The Installed ICL was 111 and it was dot to dot. Also put in a set of TSP 7.400 hardened pushrods. WE got 415rwhp and 396 rwtq with the COT still enabled and dumping fuel to around 12.3:1 at 6600rpm so there is some power to be had there. Also the cam was still going and we are planning on upping the rev-limit to 6800. He also has a LUK Pro Gold clutch and Fidanza aluminum flywheel through stock M6 and rear 3.42:1.

Mine: VaraRam-1B, p&p throttle body, LS6 intake, LS6 pcv mod, ASP UD pulley, 30lb/hr SVO's, Kook's headers, hi-flow cats, xpipe, Corsa Indies. AFR 205's milled .010", Harland Sharp 1.7:1 roller rockers, Comp XE-R 224/228 .581"/.588" 112LSA+2, installed ICL 108. Going through a SPEC Stage 3 clutch and aluminum flywheel and 4:10 gears.
We got 413rwhp and 396rwtq.

The low end grunt on both these cars is amazing and start at just over 300ft/lbs @2200rpm and gradually rises to 396fl/lbs @4500rpm and is only down a few ft/lbs @6000rpm's.

I am planning on pulling my heads and having them shaved another .020" (because I can), and redegreeing the cam in to 112 ICL, because I have more than enough low end grunt and I should get more power up top. Hoping to pick up an additional 12-15hp there.

Oh yeah, with XE-R lobes I will be checking my springs every 5k miles and replacing when nessecary.

Tony's car, (I don't want to speak for him), I believe had the heads milled .030", on .040" Cometics, and had a 224/228 .581"/.588" XE-R 114LSA on a 113ICL. He also had a set of LG headers with no cats and a FAST 90mm LSX and TB.

I am not dissapointed in my results, in fact I couldn't be happier and plan on making myself happier still. I'm not sure why there seems to be AFR bashing regarding these heads as they make the power ported LS6 heads make with the same flow numbers and are cheaper, beefier, and you don't need a core to get into them.

G5x3 cam here (among other things ) and I can't say enough good things about it. Great cam technology with the ability to grow with any additional mods you might decide to add to your engine.

Black01Z, you're already going to Xtreme. I'm sure they'll give you good advice if you lay out the requirements like you laid them out here. You didn't mention if you want it to pass the smog test. Do you care? I'd guess no since you won't have cats.
