Hurst shifter mod for those interested........
But......... I took it out and took the whole thing apart(there isn't that many parts). It seemed to me that it needed a little more movement in all directions. On inspection of the shifter shaft, I noticed that it was scored on the sides from scraping on the sides of the upper plate. The plate has kind of an elongated slot and the edges are sharp 90 degree angles.
I took my dremel with a barrel wheel and ground that sharp edge off all the way around the slot. It doesn't seem like much, but an 1/8" at the bottom of the shaft, relates to almost 1/2" side to side movement at the top. I reassembled and........
What a difference! Now 1st to 2nd as well as reverse is much easier to get, not to mention that now I'm much happier with the shifter.
This forum is for new ideas, so take it as you will.
Thanks for the tip.

I was told from here that it is normal to be tight at first and it has t be worn-in.
