Default Oil Pressure 130PSI!!!!!

The gauge is pegged at 80 and the DIC is showing 130 PSI. The oil level appears appropriate. If the car is off for a few minutes and then started, the pressure starts in the low 120's, then shoots up to 130. Do I have a faulty gauge or another problem?

help!

It is the oil pressure sending unit which is located in back of the intake manifold. Lots of owners have this problem. I did. Try searching around, there are a couple very good DIY writeups on replacing the sensor.

Is it definite that the sending unit is the problem? Is it not possible to create 130 PSI? I would hate to drive it if it could create any damage.

thanks for the input...

I know it's un-nerving but I can assure you it's the sensor though if you're unsure and have an alternate vehicle, park it. Do a search and when you see all the posts from other forum members may help ease your mind.

Turn the ignition on but dont start the car and you will see oil pressure on the gage which means the sensor is bad,

Is your oil up to the full mark on your dip stick, if it's not it will make the gauge act goofy, my buddy's car was 3/4 quart low, filled it up and the gauge is OK. It's worth an oil check, if nothing happens I agree - sensor
