door window gets caught on convert top
Time to store the machine for the winter. What I noticed is that the top rear of the drivers side window gets caught on the top right corner off the convertible top when I close the door. But, if I shut the door by pushing on the window, it clears the top. It's beginning to damage the cloth top...I'm assuming the window needs to be adjusted and pushed in a little. This is a 1998 convertible. Is this a difficult task? Would anyone have any idea how to do it?
P.S. if it rains hard the top leaks a bit on the top front corner.
Thanks
Elio
1st remove door panel. under door pull, pull removable 1/2" x 2" cover (pulls off). I think there are 1 or 2 torx bits in there...take them out and pop off the door panel.
There are (I think) 2 bolts, one on each side towards the top of the door that hold the glass in place (if the window is up, which is where it should be before you begin this task). I think they may be 10mm, but it's been a while...so use what fits.
Loosen each only slightly where you can pull the window around. Put it where you want it (test it a few times to get it right) and retighten the bolts. 10-15 minutes should do it, it's pretty easy. You want to get it as far up as possible to keep it from leaking, but it has to be down just enough to clear the top.
By the way, you want to buy something called a window valet, made by top down tech. It's about $150, but will let you control your windows remotely. In the summer, it will save a lot of time putting windows up and down. Using it this way will also save some rubbing on your top, which will save you money in the long run. Even adjusted properly, you'll probably rub the corners slightly...

Window Tip-In Adjustment - Door
Tools Required
#6 Inverted TORX® Socket
Position the window fully up.
Remove the large access plug from under the front of the door.
Loosen the window regulator front channel mounting nut.
Remove the reflector from the trim panel
Loosen the jack screw jam nut.
Adjust tip in with the jack screw.
Turn the jack screw clockwise to tip the window outward.
Turn the jack screw counterclockwise to tip the window inward.
One turn of the screw equals approximately 1 N·m (0.04 in) change at the top of the window.
Tighten the jack screw jam nut.
Lower the window.
Tighten the window regulator channel front mounting nut.
Raise the window and check the alignment.
Install the access plug under the front of the door.
Install the reflector in the door trim panel.
I may give it a shot this winter. This petpeeve is starting to get on my nerves. I like that remote window opener idea. The only think that bugs me is that I don`t want to carry another remote around.
just a thought.
i also have the window catching problem, both, and i think i will try to lower the stop a fraction, not the tip in. anyone know how to stop the travel a fraction lower?
my pass window has a air leak on the back edge that id like to stop. its not enough for a water leak , just air and is kind of anoying, there was a post about adjusting the rubbers but i cant find it, does anyone have that post?
thanks, don
happy holidays!
Besides, if it's raining, your windows should be up when you get out of the car...no?
It's really easy to adjust the window, I'd start there.
i still need some stop travel adjustment if anyone knows of this.?

5th pic, not the yellow arrow, but the set screw and jam nut below it.
What you want to adjust are the tension and set screws on either side of the top frame where it attaches to the body. This will cause the top to have a tighter strech and lift the edge just a bit for the window to clear properly. Still catches on occasion, but that is probably due to relative humidity and the fabric relaxing a bit.
With the seasonal change I just had to re-adjust the top last week, 12/15/04.
It fixed my issue.
I have also played with the tip in, but for some reason, that adjustment made very little change, as I suspect my windows were already at max tip in.
