Guys, I had the B&B bullets on about a week before the x-pipe came in. I had it installed today. I don't like the new sound at all. By the time I got home from the muffler shop I was sick. Then to make things worse they were already closed when I tried to call them. I still have my stock h-pipe from where they cut it off to install the x-pipe. Anyone know if it can be welded back in place? I like the sound of the bullets on the stock system much better than with the x-pipe.
I had the same feelings, BUT I figured it was worth the sound as that simply meant that FLOW was better thusly not causing much interferance with the EXHUAST exiting the car, so I got used to it and just got on it harder! Chuck, Hi John V, Brad B, and Andy, and Friends... Long time I know, like 2 years, so please excuse the gap out.. been selling tons of these bad boys all these years however!
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I have B&B Bullets, too, and have often wondered about installing an X-pipe. Now I am completely convinced that it is better to just keep the stock H-pipe. The shorty headers I installed make the Bullets sound even better.
Just be advised that the stock Hpipe has only got a 3/4 inch hole in it... That's right... On one of the other Corvette Website (Do a search in Google on "Corvette C5 X pipe") they actually cut open a factory pipe and found that the H pipe has SERIOUS restriction in it... Is your X pipe a 3 inch or 2.5 inch? If it is 3 inch, I'm interested!
What about the sound changed that you don't like compared to before the X-Pipe?
Sounded muffled too much, very deep, but too soft for me. I went back today and had the shop put my stock pipe back on. We did change a few things with it before re-installing. It's less restrictive now and I got that raspy deep growl back. The x-pipe is a Borla, used 15 minutes at the most and is currently in my living room need a new home.
Thanks for the comments guys. From my personal experience if you like deep, growling exhaust note, leave the bullets and h-pipe as is. If ya want a little more refined, smoother tone. The x-pipe is for you. I did make a small sound file last night with the x-pipe on the car. If someone can help post it I'll e-mail it to ya.
