Default First Oil Change

I am about to have my oil changed for the first time. I hate getting ripped off by the dealer. Jiffy Lube is near by and they do not need to raise the car. Does anyone know if Pennzoil has a synthetic that can be used in my car? If not is there any place other then the dealer to get a quick oil change using Mobil 1? Thanks for the helping a rookie.

If you talk to the guys at Jiffy Lube they might let you bring your own Mobile 1 Synthetic and filter and they will do it for about $25.00
I enquired at Great Canadian Oil Change Last week when I had my Truck done and thats what they quoted me. Hell I won't do it myself to save $25.00

If at all possible, and only you can be the judge of this, I would highly recommend changing the oil and filter yourself. You know how much of what oil went into the crankcase, and what kind of oil filter is on there. You can also take advantage of an oil analysis service, knowing that you captured the oil to be sampled at the right time during the draining process.

Happy and safe holidays!

Most oil change places will change the oil and filter with something provided by the owner for a small fee ranging from $10-$25. I have many AMSOIL customers doing that very thing.

Change your own oil and at the same time make sure you use the AC Delco UPF44 filter and get a magnetic drain plug.

Don't forget that Jiffy lube will not raise the back end of your car which removes most of the oil from the oil pan. You need to do that per factory spec so you don't leave much dirty oil or debris in the bottom of your oil pan.

I like to change my own oil because it helps me to be closer to my car. I get underneath it and look for other problems that would normally go unseen like debris in the radiator or any kind of fluid or exhaust leaks. It really can be helpful to do this procedure on your own.

I doubt Jiffy Lube or others will know what to do, including:

Waiting the required time to drain the oil. It's slow on a C5.

Filling the new filter before installing it and adding the oil.

Letting it sit for three minutes and then idling the engine for three minutes before checking the oil level and adding more if required.

I let GM do it the first time because I heard that factory installed filters can be a bear to remove, but I've done myself since then.
