I have a slight drip apparently coming from the rear center portion of my car. I am going to assume it is my rear differential since the vette is known for this. I have a 2003 C5 coupe. How do I check to ensure it is not dry so I can drive it? I was told I just check my transmission fluid to answer the question if I have fluid and do not burn up my differential??
Any experts on the matter? I plan to take it in but it will be a month or so and I do not want to cause any damage.
flyhawk04, I had the same problem. Had a slight drip from the carrier. Seemed to be left side . I sprayed with degreaser and found that it was leaking from the left side cover on the the output shaft. My local dealer, who has an excellent Vette mechanic, checked and knew about the bulletin. I drove the car about two hundred miles before repair. Mine was a small leak that would only spot a half dollar size on the garage floor. From what I have seen on the Forum, many of the C5's have been affected. The Bulletin # is 03-04-20-005. They had the car a day and a half and the job was perfectly done. No more leak. Performed under warenty. Hope this helps you.
You should be ok for a little while, there's alot of fluid in both the differential and the transmission so if you have a couple drops on your floor theres nothing to worry about however if you have a trail running down your driveway you may want to have it towed
