Default stock clutch slipping?

can someone help educate me, I have a 99 and in the past month, I have tried 2 hard launches (2000-3000 RPM), both times I can tell something is slipping, first I thought is was the tires, but I am now convinced it was the clutch (smell that stayed for a couple of miles). My car only has 20k on it, and I have heard that the clutches are not the best, is there anything I can do with the stock clutch? Is this normal?

any input is appreciated.

My 98 did the same thing. If I wound it up and didn't get it hooked up some times, it would just spin and bake. Always seemed to be ok after it cooled down. Nasty smell, though. I am replacing mine with a z06 set while I have the drive train out. I have 90k miles on the stocker, and 420 rwhp. Don't want to pull the drive line again soon.

what mods do you have on the car. If you have more than intake and exhaust, and the road was kinda sticky, the clutch will slip. I have 12k on my 2001 and the clutch is starting to show signs of slipping.

I would upgrade to the new 02 Master and Slave cylinder. My bet is that you have a hydrallic problem and not a worn out clutch. However, if your going to change the slave cylinder to the updated version, you might as well put a new clutch in it.

no mods to the car... the clutch hydraulics might be the answer, a few times the pedal has been slow to return, and it feels like it has 1" of freeplay before it engages.

Where would be a good place to buy Z06 clutch hydraulics, or the upgraded 02 components?

I purchased mine from GM Parts Direct. I believe I paid around $85 for the master and i think the slave is about the same price. The only thing i recall about the item is that it took 2 weeks untill i actually got the part. Im sure there are other alternatives. If im not mistake the dealer price was at least $100 more expensive.

Good Luck

I had a 1999 Z28 and with the ZO6 clutch package in it, my MASTER didn't seem to support heavy launches (2500 or over). I did replace the MASTER (not a hard replacement) with the MCCLOUD and noticed a great difference. I recommend that you upgrade with a MCCLOUD and you replace the entire assembly go with the MCCLOUD twin, it is pricey, but it will handle everything you can give it.

My .02 cents.
