Gutting pup-cats
I installed a Z06 exhaust on my 03 monday. I like like the sound but want it alittle louder. I'm thinking of gutting the pup-cats. How will that chance the sound? Will it increase the power? With the pup-cats gutted will I have the equivalence of a stock Z06 exhaust? Thanks!

mike mercury has a very good "how to" post on this.
I'm thinking about doing the same thing.
Bottom line is:
worth 5 ponies
a bit louder
no increase in fuel smell
effectively the same exhaust system as the zo6 if you have the ti's.
I have ti's on my 04 coupe and would not have anything else on there.

Did my cats when I installed the headers, it added a extra hour to the job but it was well worth it. It's free ponies waiting to be put to work. The crap that is in those cats are so full you would be surprised any air gets through them. You will not be wasting your time.

Is it worth it? Probably. Only because it doesn't cost anything. Gutting all four cats only gained 6 sae rwhp when we did it on a 99 A4. Doing only the front cats will gain less but you can still pass smog testing and the cost is right.

I just finish gutting the pup cats. Amazing how much stuff is in those things! Man I like the sound! It's alittle louder but not too loud. I can now hear the exhaust over the engine when standing in front of the car.There's alittle popping when coasting in gear. I like that. Well worth the time. Gutted + Z06 exhaust=
