Default PCM Vin Reflash

Does anyone know a friendly GM tech that would flash a new PCM to a specific vin? I am thinking about upgrading my PCM to a 2004, but I would like to have the same vin.

I don't think they can do that. From my understanding, the VIN would lock your PCM into a specific year. You should get LS1edit and do your own 04' -ish program, if there is somthing special about 04' programming that you like.

The 04 PCMs have faster processors and more memory. Plus the MAF table and others have higher ranges. Why would flashing the VIN of the PCM lock it to a year model? Is it not still going to have the same internals?

Most of the GM dealers can flash whatever vin you provide. I dont know if say an 04 box will accept a Vin from an 00 car though. Are the pinouts the same? The dealer has to have the PCM attached to the vehicle (or stand alone harness) to load the program from the Tech2 scanner. Some auto parts stores (NAPA or such) may be able to load a program for you. I know our local Auto Value parts store has a station that will allow them to load whatever car info into the PCM. Their shelf only has a few blank PCM's that fit a broad range of cars/trucks. When you buy one from them, they have to go in back with your vin and program it to the application.

The PCM communicates with other modules in the vehicle.Being that the ABS and RFA module are different for 2004 compared to your 2000 that is just one of many reasons why it wont work

I just bought two PCM's from Fred Bean for '01 and '03 C5's. They both use the same PCM (P/N 12200411). I assume the '02 would be the same P/N. Ken at Carputing (LS1Edit) is doing my initial stock flash on both including the VIN and options for each car. He is charging $50 each plus shipping. You might get in touch with him and ask him about using an '04 PCM in an earlier application. As to pin outs, I think everything from '99 to '03 is the same. I don't know about '04. The '99 uses a different part number PCM but I have one running in an '01 C5 until the new PCM gets back. Hope this helps.
