I know this is the general thread but so many more people here to chime in. I have an A4 with 2.73 and considering a move to 3.42 I was wondering what type and stall T/C I should get. I want this to be a street car, I take it to the drags 3 or 4 times a year.
When I changed from a 2.73 to a 3.42 rear, i decided to go wit a Yank 2800 stall. I love the set up. But my understanding is that you can elect to keep your stock converter.
Rod
I didn't have any negative effects or high reving. There is just a little reving before hooking up. not much! But boy does it act like a competely different puppy! rod
If you want it to drive around town like near stock, but still give you great performance for those few days at the track, then the ProTorque 2400-2600 stall converter is tough to beat.
The "revving" before the car starts to move, sometimes referred to as "looseness" is practically non existent with this converter.

I love the PT2400 but I am in the minority. A lot of folks on this board swear by various Yank converters. I believe a converter will change the character of the car more than any other mod. Search this forum there is a hugh amount of data regarding converters. If possible, drive some other peoples cars before you choose.
I have the PT2400 and 3.42's. I'd go a little bigger if I were to do it again. I really love the PT2400 though. H/C then MAYBE a new converter. Try driving a few if possible.
I'd say go with the SS3200. It has more STR than stock. The bad thing about a small converter is they use the factory convetrer. Which weighs 55 lbs if you go with the SS line of converters they weigh 29 lbs. The weigh differance will give you a real gain.
3.42's and a Yank 3000, great combo for street and occasional runs down the dragstrip. For a real streetable car, keep it under 3200 stall speed, otherwise the car will feel too loose around town.

I'm with you. Glad to hear some nice things about this converter also. Drives like stock until you get on it.
Been there and done that "3" times....for your use go with the 3.42's and a Pro Torque 2800 ! Don't for get the transgo shift kit too..a MUST DO for any A4!!! More info herewww.transgoperformance.com
I am very happy with my setup. Going from the stock 2.73's to this took .5 off the 1/4 mile time and still feels stock around town. Anything more than 2800 will also show very little additional gains on normal street tires due to lack of traction
I went from 2.73's to the 3.42's and a Yank SY3500...plus TransGo
and a B&M Tranny cooler too...Had to ditch the run-flats quick...they
just can't hook...GoodYear GS-D3 ...and most of my traction
issues are solved...
Gears and a TC will trully 'transform' your car. It's almost
as if you're driving a different car.
