hi guys, how do i know if active handling is functionin prprly at start up. The manual states a message would come on at start up saying" actve handling warming up". I have yet to see this message- is it because im in tx warm weather. its a 2004.thanks
I only have gotten this message if right when I start the car I take off quickly and then the message comes on saying "active handling warming up". I believe this is because the car is trying to calibrate, but didn't have time before my first move.
I found this which explains somewhat better...
The Active Handling System (AHS) Warming Up message will come on when it is below 16F or if the calibration routine isn't complete. And it stays on until it warms up or the steering position is calibrated. During this time the AH will not be working.
The AHS requires a few seconds of driving straight during the first 30 seconds to calibrate the steering position sensor. If you are immediately turning when you start driving, it will take a little while for it to calibrate. Autocrossers have noticed this when they start their car at the line and immediately go into a turn. So, they have to start their car early and leave the engine running for a bit.
To determine the temperature, the AHS uses the Intake Air Temperature (IAT). If the sensor is loose or malfunctioning, the car will think it is too cold. Sometimes after an airbox installation this may occur.

You will not see this message every time you start up. I have seen it a couple times in the 11 months that I have had the car. Don't exactly know what the conditions were that caused the message. It went away within several seconds.
If you want to know if your active handling system is working, just "goose" it the next time you go around a corner that has enough room (no cars or curbs) to allow the rear end to slide (just a little). The Active Handling message (not warming up) will appear on your DIC.
