Default Wheel sensors acting wierd, need help.

As you know, I added some new wider Y2K's to the rear of my car. I took the stock rear wheels and moved them up front.

I should preface this by saying that I have searched and searched our forum and have only come up with "how-to's", nothing like my problem.

I installed the sensors back the way they came (ie. front vs. rear) It was till later that I realized that I wouldn't have to do so if I was reprogramming them all.

Anyway, my problem is when I got it all mounted, the computer connects to the rear wheels but not to the front. I get the "service system blah, blah, blah"

I took it to a friend of mine at the dealership and tried to use their tool. When that didn't work, I tried a magnet, then a larger magnet, then a 5lb magnet. I can't get the horn to beep to start the learning process after I've gone through the necc. controls on the DIC center.

I can't imagine 2 sensors going bad at the same time, I could see one but they were both working and now magically, neither work.

Though my car is a '98 and it has the newer Y2K wheels and sensors, it obviously has been working until now. And now, it only reads the rear ones.

Help. Any suggestions?

Mark

Are you saying you're using the old style sensors in the rear wheels and new style sensors in the front? From my understanding, the two styles are different and you'll have to use the same all the way around. I used a cheap magnet from radio shack to train mine so your magnet is plenty strong.

No, I just transferred sensors to the new wheels. The sensors are the new style.

I think the front sensors must have gotten broken while transferring them. Tonight, I moved the rear wheels up front and started the learning process and they worked... so I'm assuming the front sensors are now dead.

I ordered new ones, they'll be here in the morning.

Thanks,

Mark

The new style sensors won't work on a '98. You need to find old sensors. Might want to get new batteries installed while they're easy to access.

Leaftye,

Not sure if you noticed but the wheels are Y2K's. Yes, they are the newer sensors but they are the newer wheels also.

Thanks for the heads up though.

I noticed the wheels, but since the sensors don't care what wheels they are on, I didn't mention them.

Lesson to be learned. (on my part) I had mentioned in the original post that they were Y2K wheels...thinking that automatically made them the newer style.

Imagine my surprise when I stopped at the dealership and picked them up only to see how tiny they were. "Hmmmmm, mine seemed alot bigger" (funny how I always think that...lol)

Anyway, turns out you are indeed correct. The sensors are the older style.

Just had it mounted, we'll see if that fixes it.

Thanks,

Mark
